Suzanne Hindley
What is your current role and what does a typical week look like?
I work part time sharing my role with my colleague Catherine. We register cars for parking , process visitor forms, print out access cards, book hire cars, organise DHL deliveries, upload HR notifications , answer emails and phone queries . Reception can be very busy with lots of queries from door access not working , reporting any building problems to estates and ensuring the coffee machine is regularly filled up and cleaned on a daily basis.

Which part of your role do you enjoy the most, and what are the biggest challenges?
I enjoy meeting people and trying to resolve any problems they have with regard to access, card printing and the many issues we have with parking which I think is the biggest challenge of all.
Who would you say is your role model in your personal and/or professional life?
My role model would have to be June Haimoff an environmentalist whom we were lucky to meet and call a friend in her later life living in Dalyan. She worked right up to the end on her passion to preserve the natural beauty of Iztuzu beach which is now a conservation area for the logger head turtle.
She was a wonderful strong women who prevented a hotel being built directly on the beach in the 1980s with the help of David Bellamy and others. The Turkish people called her Kaptan June due to her love of sailing and have erected a statue to her in the centre of the gardens near the river.
Which skills help you most in being able to perform your role?
Being a good listener and communicator certainly helps. Also the ability to multitask is key at busy times.
Keeping calm and staying professional when dealing with difficult situations is very important along with a pleasant and approachable disposition.
What is your favourite place on campus and why?
My favourite place is our communal picnic area next to the pond. Its a great place to relax at lunch times and socialise with friends . We have had several events which are always great to attend and get to know people.
What are your main interests or passions, outside of work?
My passion is cats welfare particularly, but I love all animals. I volunteered for Cats Protection for over 10 years and had a small cattery where we looked after mums and kittens and stray cats waiting to be rehomed. I loved socialising the stray cats that we rescued and seeing them go to their new forever home was very rewarding.
I also love travel and especially going to Dalyan in Turkey.
