We welcomed to ¹û¶³´«Ã½ one of the UK's best-selling and most well-known maths authors in the UK - Simon Singh - for a free, wide-ranging talk that appealed to anyone with even the slightest interest in mathematics.

Math + Woodworking + Polyhedra = Abraham Sharp

We were joined by sculptor and geometer George Hart who showed fascinating examples of the geometric creations and woodworking artistry of Abraham Sharp, an important figure from the fields of both mathematics and science.

A mathematical journey through literature

When: Wednesday 13 November 2024, 7pm

This lecture explored the many connections between mathematics and literature. Sarah highlighted the hidden mathematical structures behind everything from poetry to novels, and revealed some of the beautiful mathematical imagery and symbolism in fiction, from simple fairy tales to classics like Moby-Dick. Sarah's goal was to show that not only are mathematics and literature inextricably linked, but that understanding these links can enhance our enjoyment of both.
