Reflective Art Gallery by Young Adult Carers in Nigeria and the UK

The artworks in this gallery were created by young adult caregivers who participated as artists and co-researchers in art-for-wellbeing initiatives in Nigeria and the UK as part of a doctoral research project in 2025.
Four art groups took part in the project. Activities included scrap art, graffiti art, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Topics centred on wellbeing, caregiving and creative expression. Artists made individual and collaborative pieces which were displayed in exhibitions, sprayed on walls, worn as clothing and used in campaigns. The compilation video on the right shows some of the artwork created by these talented young artists.
The artists met online at a cross-cultural webinar in April 2027. Groups shared stories, artwork and ideas, leading to the design of this gallery. The event was fully funded by the Society & Culture Spotlight.
We have changed caregivers' names to preserve anonymity for the research. However, artists deserve recognition for their work. Where possible, we used pseudonyms chosen by participants.
