Years of studying and hard work finally paid off for 567 students last week as they became the latest cohort to graduate from WMG. In a glittering ceremony held at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Art Centre's Butterworth Hall on Friday 31 July, 391 Master's, 28 PhD, two EngD, and 146 undergraduate students proudly took to the stage to receive their degrees.

WMG has welcomed Professor Peter Gammon and Dr Arne (Ben) Renz, establishing a new Compound Semiconductors research area. Both researchers bring extensive expertise in compound semiconductors from ¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s School of Engineering, significantly strengthening WMG’s capability in Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD), and reinforcing ¹û¶³´«Ã½'s position in one of the fastest-growing areas of advanced electronics.

Commenting on the Prime Minister’s proposed education reforms for secondary school pupils to study subjects such as manufacturing and AI alongside core academic learning, Stewart Tait, CEO of the , said:

For over a decade, our WMG Academies for Young Engineers have delivered exceptional outcomes for young people by providing access to specialist, industry-standard facilities, real employer projects, and career pathways.

From showdowns at the iconic Silverstone racing track to history-making moments, the past few months have been ones to remember for Student Projects teams at WMG. WMG's Student Projects equip undergraduate students from a range of disciplines with practical, hands-on experience across a range of projects from cyber security to Agri-Tech, robotics to superbike development. This summer, ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Racing and ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Submarine put their skills to the test at two of Europe's major student competitions, showcasing WMG and ¹û¶³´«Ã½'s engineering expertise on the world's stage.

Throughout June, representatives from ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ welcomed Ministers, regional leaders, industry groups, and guests from the University of Ghana. Staff also represented WMG in Parliament and at international graduation ceremonies.

These visits and meetings underscore WMG’s key role in bridging the gap between academia and industry, and highlight its strong commitment to collaboration and innovation regionally, nationally, and internationally.

WMG has successfully renewed its Athena Swan Silver Award for its commitment to gender equality and creating a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Established in 2005, the Athena Swan Charter is a global framework that supports and recognises the advancement of gender equality in higher education and research. WMG has been an Advanced HE Athena Swan member for over a decade and was first awarded Silver in 2020.

Professor , Head of Safe Autonomy at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Manufacturing Group (WMG), ¹û¶³´«Ã½, has been named the winner of a prestigious  

Professor Khastgir received the Leadership Award in the Standards Makers category, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, innovation and impact in advancing public trust in the safety of autonomous vehicles. His work has played a pivotal role in shaping national and international safety standards and how they link with regulation.

A key priority for Dr Wilde and her team is to ensure that students gain meaningful, hands-on experience by working on real industry challenges alongside their academic studies. The team is committed to strengthening partnerships with businesses and enhancing the student experience by creating high-quality opportunities for engagement and collaboration.

Over 30 secondary school students immersed themselves in the world of engineering at WMG last week as part of WMG Outreach'sLink opens in a new window flagship Work Experience Week initiative. The ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has been named Motorsport Valley's first STEM Racing Centre of Excellence in a new partnership with , Maaden and Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Teamâ„¢, announced at the Aston Martin Technology Campus (AMRTC) on 1 July.

Opening in the upcoming academic year, the Centre of Excellence will serve as an open-access engineering hub, providing neighbouring schools and students with opportunities to develop practical skills in computer-aided design (CAD), CNC machining and aerodynamic testing using industry-standard equipment.
