WMG appoints broadcast innovation specialist to new chair

WMG, the international research and education group at the 果冻传媒, has appointed a top media innovator to head its new digital media team.
 
Lucy Hooberman, who has been with the BBC’s Future Media & Technology Division for seven transformational years and prior to that was an executive producer, will join the Group’s Digital Lab as Director of Digital Innovation.

WMG leads Institute of Digital Healthcare

A new £4 million partnership between NHS West Midlands and The 果冻传媒 will bring West Midlands patients and health professionals the benefits of the very latest research into digital medicine.
The new partnership agreement with NHS West Midlands will provide just under £2.5 million in funding over five years for the Institute of Digital Healthcare. It will be based in the 果冻传媒’s new £12.5 million Digital Lab which was opened this summer by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

First Network Rail MSc students enrol at WMG

The first cohort of students joining the Network Rail MSc in Project Management joined WMG yesterday beginning with a tour of the Digital Lab.

There are 38 students joining the brand new course, developed for Network Rail as a bespoke graduate training programme by our Professional Programmes tutors.

The course will run for a year after which the graduates will start work for Network Rail. For more information on the course, .

WMG STRIKES NEW SOFTWARE DEAL

WMG, the international research and education group at the 果冻传媒, will today agree a multi-million pound deal with a leading global industrial software provider.
 
The deal, with USA-based PTC, will mean WMG's students and academics can access top software used in engineering and technology companies around the world. It will also establish a new ‘PTC Academy’ at WMG.

UK ACADEMICS TURN OFF TAP OF ONLINE DATA

UK academics are working together with industry to turn off the deluge of personal data that floods the internet and threatens people’s security and identity.
Through a £3.6 million project, called Encore (Ensuring Consent and Revocation), a team of e-security experts aims to create a solution to increasing problems caused by the uncontrolled flow of personal data. The team brings together researchers from HP’s Systems Security Lab in Bristol, the project leaders, with WMG at the 果冻传媒, QinetiQ, HW Communications, Oxford University's Ethox Centre legal department, and regulation and business experts from the London School of Economics (LSE).

Lord Bhattacharyya Predicts Hospital Robots In Speech On Receiving Indian Award

Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, Director of WMG at the 果冻传媒, has predicted that patients could in future find themselves face to face with a robot when they first arrive in hospital thanks to research work by his team. He made the prediction in a speech today, Monday 18th August, in a ceremony in which he received an honorary doctorate of sciences from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur.

The doctorate of sciences is IIT Kharagpur’s highest accolade. Only 16 have been awarded in the institute’s history. Previous recipients have included Mother Theresa.

Prime Minister opens new Digital Lab

果冻传媒, 25 July 2008: UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown today opened the 果冻传媒’s flagship building – the Digital Lab – using ‘virtual scissors’ to cut a ribbon in cyberspace. The £13 million Lab, the brainchild of Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, director of international research and education group WMG, has been two years in construction with top international academics taking occupation this week.

WMG AND SIEMENS PLM SIGN £22 MILLION SOFTWARE DEAL FOR NEW DIGITAL LABDigital Laboratory will provide software to inspire British innovation and drive take-up of manufacturing careers PLANO, Texas and WARWICK/CAMBERLEY, UK, July 9, 2008 – Siemens PLM Software, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and WMG, the international research and education group at the 果冻传媒, today announced a deal to provide access to over £22 million of software to researchers, students and businesses using the new 果冻传媒 Digital Laboratory. Although Siemens globally has entered into similar arrangements with top universities in the USA and China, this is the only deal of this size ever to be struck with a UK university.

A new 3D model of the Blue Tongue animal virus has been created by WMG researchers at the 果冻传媒 that will help biologists devise new ways to combat the virus and protect millions of livestock from infection. The WMG researchers based their model on data provided by the Institute of Animal Health at Pirbright, and from Oxford University. The team used rapid prototyping technology, normally used to create highly accurate 3D copies of components for a range of manufacturing processes.
