Celebrating the best in battery research: Faraday Institution Community Awards 2026
Academics from WMG have been recognised for their research excellence at this year's prestigious Faraday Institution Community Awards. WMG's Battery Materials and Cells Group was awarded this year's Collaboration Award, while Dr Ivana Hasa, Associate Professor in Electrochemical Materials, was Highly Commended for the Researcher Development Champion Award.

WMG academic leads review on digital twin brains
Dr Ruohan Zhang, Assistant Professor in Applied Artificial Intelligence at WMG, has led a major commissioned review for Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering on digital twin brains. "Building digital twin brains at the limits of measurement" draws on research from WMG, the ¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s Department of Computer Science, and Fudan University to tackle one of biology’s biggest questions: how close are we to building a digital twin of a living human brain?

£1.43m Government-funded project to boost airport safety
WMG and Aurrigo International plc have been awarded a combined £1.43m of UK Government funding to boost airport safety through self-driving innovation. This collaborative research project, known as SENTRY, aims to reduce airport delays and safety risks by developing a fully autonomous airside vehicle to complete routine tasks, including safety patrols, runway inspections and debris removal.
Taking the lead in semiconductor innovation
WMG has welcomed Professor Peter Gammon and Dr Arne (Ben) Renz, establishing a new Compound Semiconductors research area. Both researchers bring extensive expertise in compound semiconductors from ¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s School of Engineering, significantly strengthening WMG’s capability in Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD), and reinforcing ¹û¶³´«Ã½'s position in one of the fastest-growing areas of advanced electronics.
