We’re delighted that ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Esports ranked second in the world in The Esports collegiate Programme of the year and as well as this, our Head of Esports, Jack Fenton (Applied Linguistics alumnus in BA Language, Culture and Communication, 2020) placed third as Esports Collegiate Ambassador of the Year. Assistant Professor Jason Anderson, of the Department of Applied Linguistics, has conducted the largest ever review of teacher expertise, which includes data from over 1,000 teachers from around the world in primary and secondary school education. and the 73 common features in expert teachers that have been identified.

We are delighted that ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Esports and its Head Coach, Jack Fenton (an Applied Linguistics alumnus in BA Language, Culture and Communication, 2020) are the first UK finalists amongst an otherwise all-American shortlist at this year's Esports Awards! Read more here.

On Monday 11th July students from the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ pitted their wits against a team of ¹û¶³´«Ã½ academics on BBC's programme ‘The 3rd Degree’ including one of our undergraduate students Mia Harris up against Dr Matthew Voice.

Congratulations to Elyanora Menglieva (MA TESOL, 2019), an advocate for teaching and children’s literacy, who was a 2022 Uzbekistan national finalist in the British Council ¹û¶³´«Ã½ UK Alumni Awards (Social Action category) and was awarded ‘Ambassador’s Choice’.

We are excited to be hosting the UK Linguistics Olympiad (UKLO) training camp 2022 over this weekend.

UKLO is a competition for students who are still at school (or equivalent college) to their knowledge to solve linguistic data problems. We are delighted to be able to support UKLO as the ethos of the competition is directly aligned with our own teaching approaches exploring the relationship between linguistics and the world around us.

We hope schools will continue to participate and support this fantastic enterprise!
