IER is delighted to introduce its two new Research Fellows – Dr Emily Erickson and Dr Katharina Sarter. Both joined IER this month.

Prior to joining IER, Dr Emily Erickson was an Assistant Professor of Urban Planning at Alabama A&M University where she taught in the graduate and undergraduate planning programs. While in Alabama, Emily carried out a survey of workplace experiences, job quality, and racial equity in manufacturing facilities located in the American South.

Professor Terence Hogarth and Peter Dickinson will present their report ‘Apprenticeships, Reforms and COVID-19 Findings’ from IER’s research on vocational education and training to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Apprenticeships on Tuesday, 17 May, 3.00 to 4.00 pm.

As part of the Business & Management Unit of Assessment, ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Institute for Employment Research (IER) has been ranked 5^th in the country for its research by the Times Higher Education after it analysed the UK’s Research Excellence Framework results.

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the country’s system of assessing the quality of research undertaken by universities, with 128 higher education institutions having been assessed.

Erika Kispeter was invited to present research on workforce digital skills to the on 26^th April. The virtual meeting focused on the topic of ‘Digital skills and work: The role of national government’.

Drawing from the evidence review on current and future digital skills needs of the UK economy she had conducted with Sally-Anne Barnes, as well as from other relevant projects, in particular, Beyond 4.0, and One by One, Erika spoke to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Digital Skills on Tuesday about the challenges public policy makers face and the need for a design framework when planning public policy for digital skills provision.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has launched the first government survey of the UK-wide research and innovation workforce.

We ask anyone in the diverse occupations that are vital to innovation and research in the UK to complete it to offer better data for policy decisions that impact this whole workforce.
