Dr. Ioana Vr膬biescu
WIRL-COFUND Fellow | 果冻传媒
My current project DispoCIT: Policing and Deporting EU citizens: A Comparative 果冻传媒 of Romanian Police Collaboration in France and in the UK interrogates how transnational police cooperation in targeting Romanian citizens for deportation impacts state sovereignty and citizenship dispossession. It explores exceptional measures imposed to EU citizens by comparing two models of bilateral police collaboration, Franco-Romanian and British-Romanian. Previously, I conducted multi-sited fieldwork alongside the deportation apparatus in France and in Romania (ERC project SOLIDERE: The Social Life of State Deportation Regimes, University of Amsterdam), I studied the implementation of the European Cohesion Policy at the local level (H2020 project RELOCAL: Resituating the Local in Cohesion and Territorial Development), and I conducted research with social services and institutions for migration management in Spain.
Themes: migration and mobility; power and inequality; institutional and organizational culture; state and non-state bureaucracy.
Topics: race, ethnicity and gender; intersectionality; urban development and local governance; policing mobility; state borders.
Methodology: Qualitative methods: ethnography, life-stories, interviews, (non-)participant observations; critical discourse analysis; document analysis.
