Sergeant Jonathan Benjamin of West Midlands Police has been awarded a ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Policy Hub Fellowship. He has been working with Professor Jackie Hodgson (Law), Dr Rachel Lewis (Sociology) and Dr Ruth Bernatek (Law) on their research and impact work using innovative arts-led approaches to challenge racist attitudes and behaviours within the police. As an in-residence Policy Fellow, Jonathan will be able to further this engagement, including with the Centre for Operational Police Research, COPR.

To celebrate International Workers’ Day (May Day) we have organised an online exhibition to showcase some of the policy briefs realised by students of Labour Law in Context (LA3A6) over the years. These group policy briefs are part of the assessment for the module and aim to encourage students to engage with current labour law debates and learn about policy writing as a tool for legal change. For students this is also an opportunity to value the importance of teamwork, negotiate positions, and work towards a common goal.

Former ¹û¶³´«Ã½ LLB student James Netto (2011) and his team have been working since 2024 to identify and locate absent British military fathers in Nanyuki, Kenya as part of a ground-breaking DNA and legal process. Earlier this month, the BBC released a one hour documentary and six part podcast exploring this incredible work, which focuses on the children fathered by British soldiers and their search for identity and truth.

Law 3 Year LLB student Thea Baloch was named joint winner at the 5th Annual National Law Student Triathlon held in Kent last month. The event brought together many talented future legal professionals from Universities across the UK.

¹û¶³´«Ã½ Law School's Centre for Global Health Law is proud to be part of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ and the World Health Organization (WHO), formalising collaboration to strengthen gender, human rights, and equity in digital health governance. The partnership reflects ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Law School's founding commitment to studying law in its social and political context, and its long tradition of placing human rights and social justice at the heart of legal scholarship.

Congratulations to final-year undergraduate mooters Ewan Lazenby (LLB 3 year) and Hannah Smith (Law with German) on winning the ELSA 2026 Commercial Moot Court Competition.

¹û¶³´«Ã½ Law School colleagues Professor Henrique Carvalho and Dr Ruth Bernatek have been awarded a ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Research Celebration Award, in the ‘Collaboration & Partnerships’ category.

¹û¶³´«Ã½ Law School has been ranked in the top 100 cohort in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2026, rising from the 101-150 banding last year, to 84^th place.

This is the largest number of top 100 subjects ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has held since at least 2020 and reflects consistently rising research reputation, employer recognition, and international partnerships across the University. Find out more.

Professor Ann Stewart and Professor Emily Henderson (Education Studies) were invited to present their research on gender and equitable access to Higher Education in India at the launch of the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ India Network (WIN) on Monday 16 March, as part of One World ¹û¶³´«Ã½.

¹û¶³´«Ã½ Law Society have won 'Best Law Society Overall' and 'Best Law Society for Non-Law Students' at the LawCareers.Net (LCN) Student Law Society Awards 2026.

Ben Twomey, who studied on our LLM in Advanced Legal Studies from 2015-2016, is Chief Executive at ‘Generation Rent’, who recently secured a landmark win for renters in the UK. After a decade of tireless campaigning, the Renters' Rights Act has now received Royal Assent making it an act of Parliament and therefore the law.
