Feedback statistics 2008/09
PAIS would like to thank all students who took part in the feedback exercise during the 2008/09
academic year. Your thoughts and comments are extremely useful to us, and feed directly into
changes we make to departmental procedures and practices. Many of the improvements that have
been achieved in PAIS over the past few years have been made in direct response to student
feedback. This is something that we aim to continue.
The key points of the student feedback for PAIS modules in 2008/09 are set out below.
Participation
► The level of feedback from students was high, with 72% of students returning their assessment
forms.
Feedback performance
► 72% of students rated feedback for their modules as being 'good' to 'very good'. This compares to
67% in 2007/08, and 42% in 2006/07, demonstrating a sustained improvement from PAIS.
Library materials
► The provision of library materials continues to be an area that we are constantly seeking to
improve. The figures for 2008/09 were broadly comparable with those for previous years, albeit
with a slight dip. Here, 45% of students rated the provision of books and articles as being 'good' to
'very good', compared to 49% in both 2007/08 and 2006/07.
► The provision of electronic sources was noticeably better. Here, 76% of students rated this as
being 'good' to 'very good', compared to 69% in 2007/08, and 54% in 2006/07. Again, this shows a
distinct improvement from PAIS in this area.
Key skills
Skills provision is another area on which PAIS continues to focus. The feedback from students in
this category was also overwhelmingly positive. The percentage of students who considered that
their PAIS modules had helped 'a great deal' in the development of key skills is as follows:
► Collaboration: 71%
► Time management: 77%
► Oral communication: 86%
► Independent work: 87%
► Written communication: 88%
Lectures and seminars
► 73% of students rated lectures as being 'good' to 'very good' for encouraging critical thinking.

►68% of students rated lectures as being 'good' to 'very good' for levels of intellectual stimulation.

► 77% of students rated their module as being 'good' to 'very good'.
