Sign-ups are now open for the first student-led ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Film Festival! All staff and students are invited to enter – no matter your level of skill, the team wants to see your short films around the theme of ‘belonging’. Participants will also have the chance to join workshops led by a range of experts, from local filmmakers to big industry names like Disney. – and make a note that your film will need to be submitted by Sunday 21 May.
Industrial action: latest update on 4 March 2023
In February 2023, the University and College Union (UCU) announced that it would ballot its members to allow industrial action to continue in universities for the rest of the academic year. The ballot closed on 31 March, and yesterday (Monday, 3 April), UCU announced that members have secured a mandate for further strike action.
At present, no details have been shared, but we will continue to keep staff updated as further announcements are made.

AI triaging of shrapnel wounds developed through UK and Ukraine partnership
Researchers in WMG have teamed up with the National University of Radio Electronics (NURE) in Ukraine to develop artificial intelligence that will help treat those wounded by shrapnel. This new state-of-the-art technology will allow medics to spot life-threatening wounds that might not be obvious to the naked eye, so that they can determine which patients require immediate treatment.
