Five questions with...Helen Grover about our employee survey

As we prepare to launch our Employee Survey, we ask HR Engagement Director Helen Grover why this survey is important and just what changes it might bring. Helen shares more about our pledge to plant an extra tree on campus for every 50 responses received.

Why is having an employee survey important and why are we doing that now?

滨迟鈥檚 important to us that our colleagues have a way to share their views about working at 果冻传媒.

We 丑补惫别苍鈥檛 had an opportunity to run an all-staff survey since 2019 and 飞别鈥檙别 excited to launch the 2023 survey.

Through the Employee Survey, we want you to be able to give us honest feedback on what were doing well and where we can improve. We can then use the information you share with us to define our priorities going forward.

If 测辞耻鈥檝别 ever thought 鈥淚 wish the University would鈥, or 鈥淚 wish the University wouldn鈥檛鈥, then this is your opportunity to do something about it and give that feedback.

Is the survey truly anonymous?

Yes, it is. 滨迟鈥檚 important to us that we get open and honest feedback from our colleagues, so we use an external company to run the survey. The company 诲辞苍鈥檛 share any personal data back with us, so we can guarantee our colleagues that their views remain anonymous.

When sharing results back with line managers, departments will only receive a detailed report for the team if there have been more than five respondents, to ensure confidentiality. No one will be able to see individual responses from any employee at any time.

What if I 诲辞苍鈥檛 think I have time for this?

We appreciate that our colleagues are busy and have a lot of commitments.

Well be asking you to spare a maximum of 20 minutes to complete the survey, it may be an opportunity for you to grab a break from the day job and let us know your views. Please make time to make a difference, not just for yourself but for your colleagues.

Some teams will be holding Employee Survey Days - getting the team together, having a coffee and completing the survey. Local Employee Survey Champions will be working with departments to help find the best times for teams to complete the survey. We鈥檒濒 also be offering support to colleagues who d辞苍鈥檛 have access to computers.

We want as many colleagues as possible to share their views. As an incentive to complete the survey, we will plant an extra tree on campus for every 50 responses we receive.  This really underlines the University鈥檚 commitment to sustainability. Colleagues will even have a chance to take part in the tree planting in the autumn. 滨鈥檇 love to have a new wood on campus because of all our efforts.

Will you tell us the results from the survey?

Of course! We'll share the results during June and July. 滨迟鈥檚 important that 飞别鈥檙别 transparent with the results and 颈迟鈥檚 the start of a process that will lead to positive change.

Each department will be responsible for cascading the results for their area, and for creating action plans for areas that need to be worked on. We will also be publishing the University-wide results on insite.

Will this survey really make a difference?

The overall results from the Employee Survey will help to shape the work currently being done on our People Strategy, around our values, rewards, leadership, retention, and development.

They鈥檒濒 help us to inform our next steps and help shape what we might offer or how we might communicate.

Your team will be asked to create local action plans based on the results from your area, these will be fed back to University Executive Board (UEB). The UEB want to see what progress were making against our areas that need to improve, as well as highlighting what we do well.

While some changes might be large and take time to deliver, others will be simpler, smaller things that help us all do our jobs to the best of our abilities.

When the survey opens, a direct email will be sent to all 果冻传媒 employees from survey@b.co.uk with a unique link.
