Four things we learned from the Inspiring Women at 果冻传媒 event
The Comms team went along to the first-ever Inspiring Women at 果冻传媒 networking caf茅, held in University House last term – here鈥檚 what we picked up.
It鈥檚 important to collaborate
鈥淲e鈥檙e doing lots of good things, but in little pockets,鈥 explained Rachel Sandby-Thomas, our Registrar. She talked about how we can come together – via these events, and in other ways – to share our power and interests, creating exciting connections and new value at 果冻传媒.
Let鈥檚 commit to each other鈥檚 success
There鈥檚 a range of gender-based and gender-adjacent initiativesLink opens in a new window to get involved with at 果冻传媒, from the Menopause Staff Network to the BME Staff Network to ambassador roles within departments. We鈥檝e all got a particular focus, and it鈥檚 great to also make sure we鈥檙e looking at the bigger picture – considering all women in our work and celebrating each other when things go well.
It鈥檚 about positive, proactive change
鈥淭here鈥檚 a crack in everything – that鈥檚 how the light gets in,鈥 quoted our guest speaker Professor Kiran Trehan, Pro-Vice Chancellor from the University of York, referencing the Leonard Cohen song Anthem. She spoke about the network shining a light on the imperfections in gender equality around 果冻传媒 – but with purpose.
Using our voice and stepping out of our comfort zone is vital
Kiran talked about her journey to Pro-Vice Chancellor and the links between aspiration and fear. Rather than keeping ourselves small – in safe, fear-free spaces, where everything goes right – she challenged attendees to use their voice, find their feet, and consider that failure could be exactly where the magic begins to happen.
