We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Lord Bob Kerslake.

Lord Kerslake graduated from ¹û¶³´«Ã½ in 1976 with a first-class honours degree, also holding the post of Students’ Union President during his time on campus. In 2012 he accepted an honorary degree from our University in recognition of his extensive political achievements.

Lord Kerslake was head of the Civil Service between January 2012 and September 2014, and received a knighthood for his services to local government.

Professor Stuart Croft, our Vice-Chancellor, said:

"We are very proud to share a lifelong connection with Lord Kerslake – we were delighted when he accepted an honorary degree, further cementing our enduring connection.

"Many of our staff and alumni will remember with fondness his wonderful welcome and keynote speech at our ¹û¶³´«Ã½ in Westminster event, one of the many occasions when he supported his alma mater.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time."
