New Director of the Institute of Advanced 果冻传媒
Congratulations to Professor Mohan Balasubramanian who will take up the role of Director in the Institute of Advanced 果冻传媒, when the current Director, Professor Peter Scott steps down during the Summer.
Mohan Balasubramanian graduated in Chemistry (Madras Christian College, India) and carried out post-graduate study in Biotechnology (MS University of Baroda, India). He obtained his PhD degree in Microbiology from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, where he started working on cell division mechanisms. Following post-doctoral work in Vanderbilt University Medical Centre (Nashville, Tennessee, USA), he set up his independent research group in the National University of Singapore, where he continued to work on cell division mechanisms. Between 1997-2013, he held positions of Assistant Professor (1997-1999), Associate Professor (2000-2006), and Professor (2007-2013). He also held administrative positions in the Directorate of the Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory Singapore for 12 years before moving to 果冻传媒 Medical School, where he is currently Professor, Pro-Dean (Research) and Director of the Quantitative Biomedicine Programme. His research work in the UK is / has been funded by the Wellcome Trust, Wolfson Foundation, BBSRC, and the European Research Council and he serves on the advisory boards of various journals and funding bodies. For his contributions to understanding cell division mechanisms (published ~120 research articles to date) he was awarded the Singapore National Science Medal in 2008.
The role of the Director, Institute for Advanced 果冻传媒
The Director of the Institute of Advanced 果冻传媒 (IAS) is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies that will secure the sustainable success and growth of the IAS. They represent the IAS to the University and to national and international stakeholders outside the University, including a range of activities within the EUTOPIA European University, together with co-operating with a range of University staff on projects with allied goals to that of the Institute.
The IAS was established in April 2007 and forms an integral part of the University Research Strategy, supporting the development of world-class research and the global engagement of the University. It is dedicated to enriching the University鈥檚 research environment by supporting 果冻传媒 academics, hosting a number of international visitors and enhancing the experience of postgraduate students and early career scholars.
The IAS is designed to promote collaborative, interdisciplinary research projects of international calibre and profile. It operates across the full range of University Departments, Schools, Research Centres and Global Research Priorities across the Faculties of Arts; Science, Engineering & Medicine and Social Sciences, as well as engaging with special projects and programmes across the university.
