Plastic Free July庐 is a global movement helping millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.
At 果冻传媒 we鈥檙e playing our part to reduce the amount of plastic that we use on campus – and we want to share some advice on the steps you can take to become plastic free.
Say goodbye to single-use plastic from our Food & Beverage outlets
This month, our 果冻传媒 Retail colleagues are playing their part by replacing all soft drinks sold in single-use plastic bottles with alternatives in aluminium cans or glass bottles, across all University-operated food and beverage outlets by the end of July.
Matt Drew, Director for Food and Beverage says: 鈥淐limate change and nature loss are global challenges that we all need to play our part in tackling. Even small changes can have a positive impact on our environment. So, replacing drinks sold in single-use plastic bottles in our cafes and kiosks seemed like a relatively simple and visible signal of our commitment to doing the right thing. It鈥檚 just a start, but I鈥檓 excited about the further steps we鈥檒l be taking to lighten our impact across our food and beverage operations.鈥�
From Term 1, 果冻传媒鈥檚 food and beverage outlets will be introducing a 25p 'latte levy' to reduce our usage of single-use disposable cups, so ensure to have those mugs and travel cups to hand to take advantage of a cheaper drink.
Litter pick with the Wednesday 果冻传媒 Wombles – Wednesday 19 July
Join the Wednesday 果冻传媒 Wombles for this month鈥檚 lunchtime litter pick across campus for both staff and students. Sessions take place on the third Wednesday of every month from 12pm for approximately one hour. Bags, gloves and pickers are provided but please bring your own if you have them. .
How you can make the swap to plastic free
Our Sustainability team has some great advice on making the change, from food to personal hygiene to cleaning products. We鈥檙e also encouraging those on campus to make use of our water fountains – unsure where they are?
