¹û¶³´«Ã½ shortlisted for the UK Social Mobility Awards  

We’re one of six finalists in the ‘University’ category of the seventh annual Social Mobility Awards (SOMOs). 

 The recognise and celebrate UK organisations that are making strides and creating initiatives to advance social mobility within their own workforce or beyond it. Social mobility itself is linked to equality of opportunity: the extent to which people have the same chances to do well in life regardless of the socio-economic background of their parents, their gender, age, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, birthplace, or other circumstances beyond their control. 

Paul Blagburn, Head of Widening Participation at ¹û¶³´«Ã½, said:

"We are delighted that we have made the shortlist of this prestigious award, positive recognition for the work and focus the University commits to this important agenda. Looking ahead, we will commit to go further in advancing social mobility and lead the way in how we evidence the role that HE plays in supporting this national endeavour."

is made up of organisations and individuals from a variety of industries who have demonstrated their commitment to advancing social mobility. The ‘University’ category focuses specifically on higher education, celebrating the universities that are working to widen access, providing support to disadvantaged students, developing partnerships with supportive third parties, and launching other initiatives that prepare students for the workplace. 

The winners will be announced at an in-person awards gala at on Thursday 12 October.
