In a WMG academic Professor Naomi Brookes, from the ¹û¶³´«Ã½, has worked with the University of Leeds, and University College London to identify ways to prevent modern day slavery in projects.

The ¹û¶³´«Ã½ is one of eight trailblazing universities to have become the first in the UK to gain recognition for their commitment to cyber security education in a new initiative from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) – a part of GCHQ.

As the inevitable growth of transport electrification continues, the types of batteries that will be used in such vehicles, their charging parameters, infrastructure and timeframes are key considerations that will speed up the transition to electrification. In the paper, ‘ published in and on the cover of the Journal Batteries, researchers from WMG, ¹û¶³´«Ã½ investigated the impacts on battery cell ageing from high current operation using commercial cells.

Extensive research, carried out by researchers from WMG, ¹û¶³´«Ã½ included characterisation, performance, safety and degradation testing of an EV battery, with degradation being the key focus to understand the impact on battery pack warranty.

The ERC today, the 9th December, announced the winners of its latest Consolidator Grant competition for mid-career researchers. The funding is part of the EU’s current research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020, and worth in total €655 million. With this support, the new grantees will be able to consolidate their teams and have far-reaching impact. The two ¹û¶³´«Ã½ academics who have received the award are Professor David Loeffler, from the Mathematics Institute, and Dr Pier-Emmanuel Tremblay from the Department of Physics.
