Antibiotic resistance is an increasing battle for scientists to overcome, as more antimicrobials are urgently needed to treat biofilm-associated infections. However scientists from the School of Life Sciences at the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ say research into natural antimicrobials could provide candidates to fill the antibiotic discovery gap.

An exploding white dwarf star blasted itself out of its orbit with another star in a ‘partial supernova’ and is now hurtling across our galaxy, according to a new study from the ¹û¶³´«Ã½'s Astrophysics Group.It opens up the possibility of many more survivors of supernovae travelling undiscovered through the Milky Way, as well as other types of supernovae occurring in other galaxies that astronomers have never seen before.

It was announced in May last year (2019) that the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has won the bid to plan, organise and host the 18th International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists (ICWES18) for September 2020, however due to the current COViD-19 pandemic the event has been pushed back to 2021.

The conference was previously held at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ (ICWES9) in 1991, ICWES18 will now return to ¹û¶³´«Ã½ on 1-4 September 2021.
