(Verdel) has recently announced the close of its £1 million equity funding round from Longwall Ventures.

Verdel is a UK-based company pushing the boundaries of complex sample analysis using innovative Two-Dimensional Mass Spectrometry (2DMS) technology. The approach was originally developed for large, complex FT-ICR instruments, but Verdel has developed technology that transfers the technique onto commonly used, high throughput linear ion trap instruments. Verdel’s technology is based on research by Professor Peter O’Connor at the ¹û¶³´«Ã½.

Professor Scanlan has been awarded €2.5 million from the ERC, which will be used to investigate virus inhibition of Oceanic CO2 fixation, in a project called ‘VirFix’.

Researchers from the Department of Psychology at the ¹û¶³´«Ã½, have put together a poster with tips to protect your sleep for students, however it can also apply to the general population in a time when their mental health and sleep may be suffering.

Fraudsters regularly use a fabricated caller ID to look like they are calling from a trusted source to convince people over the phone to hand over money. The current solution, which the Federal Communications Commission is urging telecom providers in the US to adopt, requires a globally trusted authority, but such authority is difficult to manage. Researchers at the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ will find new ways to tackle this problem without requiring trusted authorities or modifying the existing telecommunication infrastructure, thanks to a grant from the EPSRC.

Professor Wanda Lewis, from the School of Engineering at the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

In 2004, she was elected a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, which means that she is one of a very few, if not the first female to hold Fellowships at both the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Royal Society of Arts.

The microbes found in aquatic environments and their interactions will be investigated by ¹û¶³´«Ã½ researcher Professor Orkun Soyer, thanks to an investigator award from The Gordon and Betty Moore foundation.
