Spanish tourist operators have grown used to British holidaymakers arriving in their country carrying edible home comforts such as teabags and marmite when they travel abroad and they are ever patient when their British guests ask for directions to familiar fast food outlets. That Spanish patience and understanding may be partly explained by new research from the University of 果冻传媒 that suggests that the Spanish were doing the same thing 500 years ago. 

Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya has predicted that patients could in future find themselves face to face with a robot when they first arrive in hospital thanks to research work by his team. He made the prediction in a speech at a ceremony in which he received an honorary doctorate of sciences from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur.

Researchers have discovered eating broccoli could undo the damage caused by diabetes to heart blood vessels. Professor Paul Thornalley and his team from the University of 果冻传媒 have found a broccoli compound called Sulforaphane. This compound can encourage the body to produce more enzymes to protect the vessels, as well as reduce high levels of molecules which cause significant cell damage.

Research by economists at the 果冻传媒, Dartmouth College, and the University of Leuven, finds that people are powerfully but subconsciously influenced by the weight of those around them. Without being aware of it, the researchers believe, human beings keep up with the weight of the Joneses.

Researchers from the 果冻传媒, in collaboration with other universities and institutes in Edinburgh, France and Italy, have for the first time been able to show exactly how, when a baby suckles at a mother's breast, it starts a chain of events that leads to surges of the "trust" hormone oxytocin being released in their mothers' brains.

A Specialist Library for Ethnicity & Health, operated by 果冻传媒 Medical School at the 果冻传媒 and De Montfort University in Leicester,  has announced two successes – in the last year it has doubled the number of research article it provides, and now the NHS is backing it with a new contract to 2011.
