Brain activity shows infants are hardwired to link images and sounds as they learn to speak

New research examining electrical brain activity in infants suggests that we are biologically predisposed to link images and sounds to create language.

In a paper published in the journal Cortex, an international team of researchers in the UK and in Japan, including those at the 果冻传媒, examined the electrical activities of the brain in 11 month-olds at the initial stages of word learning.

Disintegrating exoplanet to provide new clues about planet composition

Astronomers have made observations which can reveal the chemical makeup of a rocky world orbiting a distant star.

Led by researchers at The Open University, in conjunction with the Universities of 果冻传媒 and Sheffield, the observations could initiate a new discipline: exogeology – the geology of planets orbiting other stars.

Thames study: rivers can be a source antibiotic resistance

Rivers and streams could be a major source of antibiotic resistance in the environment.

The discovery comes following a study on the Thames river by scientists at the 果冻传媒’s School of Life Sciences and the University of Exeter Medical School.

The study found that greater numbers of resistant bacteria exist close to some waste water treatment works, and that these plants are likely to be responsible for at least half of the increase observed.

New “triggered-release” mechanism could improve drug delivery

More efficient medical treatments could be developed thanks to a new method for triggering the rearrangement of chemical particles.

The new method, developed at the 果冻传媒, uses two ‘parent’ nanoparticles that are designed to interact only when in proximity to each other and trigger the release of drug molecules contained within both.
