The 果冻传媒 will be opening its doors to explain how we all got here. For the first time 果冻传媒 Medical School is holding a public science evening to explain the journey we all make from one cell to a human being.

Children who get less than the recommended amount of sleep for their age are at a higher risk of developing obesity. Research at the 果冻传媒 has found that children and adolescents who regularly sleep less than others of the same age gain more weight when they grow older and are more likely to become overweight or obese.

Each month, the Philosophy in a Time of Crisis website will host a dialogue on one of the key problems and challenges faced by Europe, inviting short contributions and interviews from leading philosophers, artists, writers and intellectuals. Contributions from the 果冻传媒 student community and the public at large are also welcome.

Another member of the 果冻传媒 Department of Sociology has been awarded a prestigious Philip Leverhulme Prize in the 2017 awards round. Dr Maria do Mar Pereira鈥檚 prize brings the University鈥檚 total to five, out of just thirty prizes awarded nationally this year across different disciplines.

A new state-of-the-art Cryo-Electron Microscope (Cryo-EM) facility that will advance the understanding of the processes of life has been officially opened.

Professor John Solomos from the 果冻传媒 Department of Sociology has been given this year鈥檚 Distinguished Service to British Sociology Award, an award made each year by the British Sociological Association to an outstanding individual who has contributed greatly to the discipline.
