This small work by Huxley relates to a series of larger paintings made by Huxley in the 1980s and 1990s in which the canvas is divided vertically into two sections; each contains either a variation of the other or a contrast in terms of form or colour. Here, the two sections contain similar basic forms but the right-hand one is more agitated and colourful and nudges playfully against the calculated harmony of its monochrome neighbour, suggesting some sort of dialogue between the two.
