JISC Discovery Tool
The JISC Discovery Tool is a self-reflection and development resource designed to help staff and students explore and enhance their digital capabilities. Rather than assessing competence, the tool focuses on levels of engagement and confidence across a range of digital skills and practices.
A variety of themed question sets are available, including:
- Effective Digital Teaching
- Accessibility and Inclusion
- Digital Skills in AI and Generative AI
- Overall Digital Capabilities
After completing a question set, individuals receive personalised feedback, guidance, and resources to support their ongoing development.
Supporting Departments and Teams
The JISC Discovery Tool can also be used to gather anonymised group data, providing valuable insights into areas where teams may benefit from additional support, training, or development opportunities.
Digital Learning can support departments throughout this process by:
- Advising on the most appropriate JISC question sets for your context
- Supporting staff engagement and participation
- Collecting and analysing anonymised survey data
- Presenting findings and recommendations
- Designing targeted upskilling pathways, workshops, and development activities related to digital learning
Digital Learning has already worked with several departments across the University using the JISC Discovery Tool:
- WMG used the tool to help inform the development of AI-focused staff development pathways and identify areas for further support.
- The Library used the tool to gather digital capability data, with Digital Learning supporting the analysis and presentation of the results to inform future development activities.
By combining self-reflection with evidence-based planning, the JISC Discovery Tool provides a practical way for individuals and departments to better understand their digital capabilities and identify opportunities for growth.
