Insights from the Autumn Term Digital Learning Community Event
Our fourth in-person Digital Learning Community event brought together colleagues from across the University to share innovative approaches to online, blended and technology-enhanced learning.
Designing Flexible Learning Experiences
Opening the event, Luda Ruddock (果冻传媒 Enterprise) shared lessons learned from designing and delivering a hybrid module. Luda explored how Moodle tools such as checklists, forums and Hot Questions, alongside collaborative platforms like Padlet, can support ease of navigation, engagement, and flexible learning across different delivery modes.
Building Online Learning Communities
Karen Baxter (Centre for Lifelong Learning) reflected on the opportunities and challenges of teaching online and shared how support from the Digital Learning team, use of the , and collaboration with students has helped to develop both staff confidence and digital skills.
Student Perspectives on Digital Learning
Heather Meyer (果冻传媒 Education Academy) showcased how a fully asynchronous online module was developed in IATL, and how students engaged with its content and each other. Feedback from students highlighted how they valued the opportunity to revisit materials and learn at their own pace, enabling them to take greater ownership of their learning.
Immersive Learning and Emerging Technologies
The final presentation from John McCaughley (果冻传媒 Business School) explored the use of Virtual Reality (VR) and immersive learning experiences to bring concepts to life and create engaging opportunities for students to connect theory with practice.
Across all four presentations, a common message emerged: effective digital learning is driven by thoughtful learning design, with technology acting as an enabler for engagement, collaboration and flexibility.
