Overview

Student Training is made up of courses that sit outside your main academic studies. They鈥檙e designed to support you in important areas of university life, and will benefit your development of soft skills, such as emotional intelligence.

These courses are open to all students. Your course may require you to complete separate training related to your studies, and this will be communicated to you by your department.

Student Conduct: What you need to know

 Complete annually

60 minutes

This mandatory online course introduces the key principles of dignity, respect and shared values that guide behaviour and interactions across our university. It includes practical guidance, reflective activities, and resources to help you understand your role in fostering a welcoming environment. The course also focuses on key issues of consent, relationships, and freedom of speech.

A mandatory information security course aimed to equip students with the most basic knowledge about cyber attacks and scams and how to protect themselves.

Sustainability at 果冻传媒: What It Means and What You Can Do

One-off course

20 minutes

A 20-minute interactive module covering the core principles of environmental sustainability, 果冻传媒's sustainability journey, how to get involved, and the practical steps you can take as a student. Includes a knowledge check and completion certificate. Developed in partnership with students and the Students' Union, and linked to 果冻传媒's Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

Foundations in Racial Equity

One-off course

90 minutes

This resource is part of our community efforts to create inclusive learning environments at 果冻传媒, where we cherish the rich diversity of our vibrant body of students and staff. This training aims to support you to develop your confidence to champion inclusion; a key skill for your future. The training explores: the historical origins of race and racism, its contemporary consequences (systems), the human impact of racism and taking action.

Climate Literacy Training

One-off course

10 hours

The Climate Literacy Training programme equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to understand and respond to the climate crisis. The training provides a foundational overview of climate science, the causes and impacts of climate change, and the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability. The programme also introduces practical strategies for climate action, empowering students to make informed decisions in their personal lives, academic work, and future careers. Aligned with the University鈥檚 sustainability strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the training encourages critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and collaborative problem-solving. By the end of the course, students will be better prepared to contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future within 果冻传媒 and beyond.

Academic Skills Training from the Library

19 One-off courses

60 - 90 minutes each

The Library's programme of research and academic skills training provides students with the knowledge and practical skills to find, manage, publish and promote research effectively, covering information literacy, referencing, research data management, open research, publishing, intellectual property, research impact and the responsible use of AI.

Core Training FAQs

1. When do I need to complete the training by?

Both the Conduct and CyberSafe training must be completed by Saturday 10th October.

2. I think I've done this course already

These courses need to be completed every year. You may have completed an earlier version due to a system issue, in which case you should see a 'completed' status for the course on this page. If you don't think our records are up to date, please use our to contact us and choose the 'already completed the course' option. You'll need to provide:

• A copy of your course completion certificate (PDF or screenshot)
• Your full name
• Your University ID number

Unfortunately, if you are unable to provide evidence of completion, you will be required to complete the current version of the course.

a) Why has this happened?

The courses were updated for the 2026-27 academic year with revised content. During the transition, some students were able to access the previous version of the course. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

b) I started an older version of a course but did not complete it before the new version was released. Can my progress be transferred?

Unfortunately not. The courses contain updated content and any partial progress from the previous version cannot be transferred. You'll need to complete the current version of the course.

3. I have tried to access the training but I see a 'can't seem to find the page you're looking for' message

We're aware of an issue that may affect a small number of users when loading content in Moodle. Please complete our and select the 'can't seem to find the page' option.

4. I have tried to access the training but I see a 'you cannot enrol yourself on this course' message

5. I have an issue with some of the course content

The courses must be completed by all students, but we do still want to hear your feedback for consideration when planning next year's courses. Please use our to get in touch.
