The University have been participating in the Hedgehog Friendly Campus initiative since 2021. Over the years, we increased our commitment through the Bronze and Silver Awards, and in 2024 we achieved the highest level of recognition available with the prestigious Gold Award.

2026/27 will be an exciting academic year as we have started working on renewing our Gold Award! Achieving this highest level of recognition will involve a lot of work but we are keen to ensure that we continue having a campus where hedgehogs and other wildlife can thrive alongside the community of students, staff and visitors.

We will be undertaking surveys of the campus to understand how we can make it even more hedgehog friendly, raising awareness through our communication platforms and events, and running webinars, walks, talks and workshops to equip and empower students and staff to make a valuable contribution to citizen science and wildlife in general, and hedgehog welfare and conservation in particular.

There are plenty of ways students and staff can get involved to help us achieve our goal. Visit our officialfor further information and see the "How to get involved" tab to find out what actions you can take to support our efforts!
