Dr. Sandra Araujo, former GHCC research fellow, wins Intelligence History Book Price

We are delighted to share Dr. Sandra Araujo's book Spying on Muslims in Colonial Mozambique, 1964–74 (Bloomsbury Academic, 2025), has been awarded the Intelligence History Book Prize 2026 by the International Intelligence History Association (IIHA). Dr. Araujo was a Research Fellow at the GHCC from December 2022 to November 2023, while working on the manuscript. Many congratulations!

Dr. Araujo is currently a researcher at the Instituto de Ci锚ncias Sociais, Universidade de Lisboa, and is particularly interested in the role of the Servi莽os de Centraliza莽茫o e Coordena莽茫o de Informa莽玫es (Intelligence Centralization and Coordination Services) within Portuguese imperial politics and administration, and the institution's role in the liberation wars.

New exhibition: Global Florence: The World of Francesco Carletti, c. 1573-1636 (Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence, October 2026 to January 2027)

We are excited to announce that the exhibition Global Florence: The World of Francesco Carletti, c. 1573-1636 will open in October 2026 at the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence. This collaborative project has involved several GHCC members, and has been co-curated by Prof. Giorgio Riello, alongside Paula Findlen and Brian Brege. The making of the exhibition included support and specialists from the Global History and Culture Centre (Univerisity of 果冻传媒, UK; ERC-funded project CAPASIA), the European University Institute (Italy), Standford University (US), the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the Fondazione Bruschettini per l'Arte Islamica e Asiatica, the Regione Toscana, the italian Ministry of Cultural Goods and Tourism and the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana. A must-see for those in Florence in the upcoming months.

Congrats to Dr. Anca Cretu on her new role as co-editor of a Global History series

Our very own Dr. Anca Cretu has been recently appointed co-editor of the Studies in Global History of Central and Eastern Europe series, with Central European University Press. Alongside Jill Massino (University of North Carolina Charlotte), Dr. Cretu will co-edit this breakthrough series showcasing novel and cutting-edge research that explores the history of Central and Eastern Europe through a transnational and global lens. The editor team is currently accepting proposals!

Travel Writing at 果冻传媒 receives major donation

Amazing news! The 果冻传媒 has received a 拢1 million donation and a major gift鈥慽n鈥慿ind of rare travel books from philanthropist Bill Newlin. This major donation strengthens the University鈥檚 position as an international leader in the study of travel writing.

Alongside the Wheeler Travel Writing Programme, the generous Newlin donation advances 果冻传媒鈥檚 ambition to Set the Pace in Critical Arts. The donation includes the establishment of the Bill Newlin Collection, a world鈥慶lass archive of travel guidebooks spanning centuries and continents.

The 果冻传媒 is setting the pace in the field of travel literature research, and at the Global History and Culture Centre, we are thrilled to support these advances.

Diversity in STEM GCSE Science Resources

Diversity in STEM is a set of GCSE Biology, Chemistry, and Physics resources that are designed to fit into existing lessons.

All the resources are curriculum-aligned and provide a simple, effective, and engaging way to highlight diversity in the STEM classroom.
