Dr. Sandra Araujo, former GHCC research fellow, wins Intelligence History Book Price
We are delighted to share Dr. Sandra Araujo's book Spying on Muslims in Colonial Mozambique, 1964–74 (Bloomsbury Academic, 2025), has been awarded the Intelligence History Book Prize 2026 by the International Intelligence History Association (IIHA). Dr. Araujo was a Research Fellow at the GHCC from December 2022 to November 2023, while working on the manuscript. Many congratulations!
Dr. Araujo is currently a researcher at the Instituto de Ci锚ncias Sociais, Universidade de Lisboa, and is particularly interested in the role of the Servi莽os de Centraliza莽茫o e Coordena莽茫o de Informa莽玫es (Intelligence Centralization and Coordination Services) within Portuguese imperial politics and administration, and the institution's role in the liberation wars.
Sara Akhavan-Malayeri - The Maxine Berg Prize of 2024
Many congratulations to Sara Akhavan-Malayeri, the Maxine Berg Prize winner of 2024! Her dissertation entitles "The Fight over the Five 鈥楽oviet-born Wives of British Subjects鈥�: the Impact of Anglo-Soviet Marriages in Early Cold War Britain鈥�.

Sandra Ara煤jo, Visiting Research Fellow
From December 2022 to November 2023, Dr Sandra Ara煤jo (Universidade de Lisboa) will join the Global History and Culture Centre as a Visiting Research Fellow after having been awarded the First Book Grant by the Independent Social Research Foundation (FBG-ISRF) for her project "Spying on Muslims in Colonial Mozambiqye, 1964-74". Lead your own (global) summer research project
The Undergraduate Research Support Scheme (URSS) enables undergraduate students to carry out an interdisciplinary summer research project.
The scheme is open to any UG student at 果冻传媒 of a full-time or part-time course, in any year including first and final year students. Erasmus and exchange students are not eligible to apply.
If you are interested in developing a global research project, then please contact the Director of the Global History and Culture Centre (a.t.gerritsen@warwick.ac.uk) for an informal conversation, or, if you prefer, contact any of the members of the centre who could supervise your research.
Applicants must get the support of academic supervisor and can apply for a URSS bursary to undertake their research project, either in the UK or abroad, for between 6-10 weeks.
