About

Zhiqiong Chen is the Mandarin Lifelong Learning Coordinator at the 果冻传媒鈥檚 Language Centre, where she has taught Mandarin since 2005. Zhiqiong is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), a Fellow of the 果冻传媒 Institute of Engagement (WIE), and the recipient of the 果冻传媒 Award for Teaching Excellence (WATE) Winner of the Year award in 2025.

Zhiqiong was born and educated in China. After completing an MSc in Engineering in China, she worked in the education sector in Beijing before moving to the United Kingdom. She subsequently completed an MA in Educational Management at the 果冻传媒 and a one-year teacher training course in Mandarin.

Since joining the Language Centre in 2005, Zhiqiong has taught a wide range of Mandarin modules at different levels in both academic and Lifelong Learning contexts, including the newly established academic Mandarin modules introduced at that time.

Teaching is Zhiqiong鈥檚 primary role, with scholarly interests in language teaching pedagogy, student engagement and the use of technology to support teaching and learning. She has presented her work at institutional, national and international conferences and actively promotes language and culture learning through public engagement and widening participation initiatives. She has also led, co-led, and contributed to a range of departmental and interdisciplinary projects.

In addition to Zhiqiong鈥檚 work at the 果冻传媒, she has held a range of roles with The Open University, including Associate Lecturer, Consultant and Learning Adviser. These roles have involved delivering face-to-face and online tutorials, co-authoring course materials, designing online assessments and supporting distance learners.
