Beginner's Ancient Greek
This 9-week online course is aimed at postgraduate students, researchers, and other interested learners, and assumes no prior knowledge of Ancient Greek. The course introduces the main elements of Attic Greek, enabling complete beginners to develop the skills needed to become less reliant on English translations when engaging with ancient texts.
Participants will explore key features of this highly inflected language, including the Greek article, nouns, verbs, and adjectives, while building a foundation for further study. By the end of the course, students will be able to recognise basic grammatical forms and structures and use grammar resources and a lexicon to develop their own understanding of simple Greek passages.
The course begins on Thursday 18 February 2027, meeting weekly at 4.30-6pm (UK time) for five weeks. Following an Easter break, classes will resume on Thursday 8 April 2027 for the final four weeks.
Participants must be able to read the Greek alphabet before the first session. Introductory materials, including audio files, will be circulated in advance. As the course is intensive, regular independent study and practice throughout the programme will be expected. Weekly exercises and preparatory tasks will be provided to reinforce learning between sessions.

Course fee: 拢300 per person. Participants whose institution belongs to the Newberry Library Consortium may be eligible for consortium grants to cover the cost of the course. Please contact your local consortium representative for further details. There is no fee for fully-enrolled 果冻传媒 students.
