Gradtrain has tailored its popular Communicating with the Media Workshop to work in a virtual format. Delivered via Zoom, the first three hour workshop provides advice on the process and practicalities of dealing with the media, from how a TV or Video conferencing interview works, clothing, camera and microphone techniques, pay expectations and how to build long-lasting relationships. The second part of the workshop (taking place on a separate day) simulates a mock interview whereby the academic is invited onto a programme to provide an ‘expert analysis’ around their subject with a TV journalist. This session will be 30 minutes long and done in pairs (taken in turns with another academic) so that feedback can be provided by the trainer playing the ‘Journalist’ and so that earning is strengthened by observing another academic in the same session. Participants will also receive a copy of their video interviews/presentations and a media training pack.
