Dr Farjana Kabir Early Career Fellow (IAS)

Good luck to one of our Early Career Fellows who will represent her work on decolonial performance practices at an upcoming international conference hosted by the University of Toronto on 27–28 May.

Dr Kabir will contribute to the event as both a facilitator and performer, presenting a solo piece titled The Kitchen Window Diaries. Supported by Early Career Researcher (ECR) funding, her participation marks a significant step in the development of her ongoing research.

The IAS is delighted to announce that the following projects are being funded by Interdisciplinary Research Development Awards, Round Three:

Dr Kirsty Hassall (Statistics): 'Creating the interdisciplinary foundations of chain event graphs in ecological frameworks'

Interdisciplinary IAS journal Exchanges is soliciting expressions of interest related to the upcoming special issue A Woman's Labour.

A new scholarly book examining the socialization of school leaders across sub-Saharan Africa is set for publication in early 2026. Co-authored by Dr Pontso Moorosi and her collaborator, the volume, Socialization of School Leaders in Sub-Saharan Africa: Reimagining the Landscape, has recently completed the review process and is now moving into production.

The book will be published by Bloomsbury, with an anticipated release window of January–February 2026. The publication represents the culmination of several years of research and collaboration, offering fresh insights into leadership development and professional socialization within educational contexts across the region.

The authors acknowledged the significant role played by institutional support in bringing the project to completion. In particular, the Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) will be formally recognised in the book鈥檚 acknowledgements. The authors expressed their gratitude, noting that the work may not have been completed without the institute鈥檚 assistance.

Plans are also underway for a formal launch event in 2026. Potential venues include the 果冻传媒 and the BELMAS conference, subject to availability. The authors hope these events will provide an opportunity to celebrate the publication and engage with scholars, practitioners, and supporters of the project.

The forthcoming release is expected to contribute meaningfully to ongoing conversations about educational leadership, equity, and system transformation across sub-Saharan Africa, while also strengthening international dialogue in the field of educational research.

The latest issue of Exchanges features contributions on Sustainability Culture from authors working in a variety of disciplines and cultures worldwide.

Dr Yanyan Li, together with co-authors Dr Mingzhi Li, Cagla Karatepe and Xinran Gao, has co-authored an influential article in Times Higher Education advocating eight practical strategies to create a more inclusive research culture for carers. This article transformed findings from the 2024-2025 Enhancing Research Culture Fund project 鈥淔ECARE鈥�, where Yanyan served as a Co investigator, into practical insights into building a carer-inclusive research culture.
