Dr Hungyen Lin
Biography
Dr Hungyen Lin is an Associate Professor in Measurement and Precision Engineering. Hungyen received a First Class Honours degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Adelaide, Australia, followed by an industry-sponsored Master by Research at the University of South Australia. He then returned to the University of Adelaide to complete a PhD in Electronic Engineering, during which he realised terahertz spectrometers and microscope. During his doctoral studies, he undertook research exchanges at the University of Freiburg and Osaka University, supported by an Australian Prime Minister鈥檚 Asia Award. Following his PhD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate for a total of two years in the Terahertz Applications Group at the University of Cambridge, under Professor J. Axel Zeitler, before joining Lancaster University as a Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer. He brings substantial prior industrial and professional experience in software engineering and patent practice.

Research Interests
My research focuses on the development of terahertz, optical measurement technologies for the non-destructive sensing, imaging and characterisation of materials, devices and processes. Working at the interface of applied physics, engineering and materials science, we apply these techniques to pharmaceutical manufacturing, graphene and other advanced materials, battery materials, and ion-exchange membranes used in electrochemical devices. Our long-term ambition is to translate these advanced laboratory methods into robust, quantitative and non-invasive tools for process monitoring, quality assurance and materials evaluation, with strong industrial engagement.
