Mehnaz Iqbal and Tony Liddicoat have published a new article exploring the multilingual ideologies of Bangladeshi children in the UK.

The study examines how children negotiate relationships between their heritage languages and their everyday lives in Britain, providing insights into multilingualism, identity, and language use within migrant communities.

The article, published in International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, is titled:

Christopher Strelluf presented two papers at the International Conference on English Historical Linguistics, held in Milan in June 2026.

The presentations explored regional and social variation in the history of English, examining both nineteenth-century American English and the historical development of English in Coventry, England. The conference travel was supported by SELCS conference travel funding.

The papers were:

Christopher Strelluf, Xinran Gao, Sophie Frankpitt, Cagla Karatepe, Ayman Alrajhi, and Holly Taylor have published a new article examining lifespan language change and stability in the vowel system of Donald Trump, a lifelong speaker of New York City English.

Drawing on speech data spanning five decades, the study explores changes in Trump's production of the THOUGHT vowel, providing insights into patterns of linguistic change and stability across the lifespan. The research emerged from the Sociophonetics Reading Group in Applied Linguistics and was supported by Applied Linguistics research activity funding.

Jason Anderson has published an article exploring the relationship between project-based learning and task-based language teaching.

The article examines the continuities and differences between these two approaches to language education and considers how they may be integrated to support effective language learning and teaching.

Suji Ko and Troy McConachy have published a new article examining how intercultural learning is supported in two English Conversation textbooks used in Korean high schools.

The study analyses the cultural representations presented in the textbooks, alongside the activities they include, to explore how they may support students in developing intercultural understanding and awareness.
