EC959-30 DissertationPrincipal Aims
To encourage students to pose an interesting research question; to find the correct methods for analysing the question, including development of theoretical models and/or analysis of data where appropriate; to write up their results independently, without the need for continuous supervision.
Principal Learning Outcomes
Subject knowledge and understanding: demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the topic of the dissertation.
Cognitive Skills: define a feasible project allowing for time and resource constraints.
Cognitive Skills: develop an adequate research methodology and be able to formulate and test concepts and hypotheses.
Key Skills: make optimal use of library resources.
Key Skills: access databases, understand their uses and limitations, and extract relevant data.
Professional skills: work without the need for continuous supervision.
Syllabus
The topic of the dissertation will be agreed in conjunction with the Director of Postgraduate Taught Programmes in Economics plus the allocated dissertation supervisor.
