2026 ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Summer School on Practice and Process Studies:

To Know is to Act: Revisiting and rethinking learning and knowing from practice & process perspectives

The ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Summer School convenes scholars interested in practice and process studies in an open and multi-disciplinary learning community characterized by dialogue, discussion, and joint exploration.

The Summer School is designed for those with an advanced understanding of practice and process theories. The Summer School will consider the state-of-the-art of practice, process and routines studies (1 day) and discuss the particular 2026 theme: How should we think about organisational change as if change mattered? A process and practice perspective (1.5 days).

Practice and Process Studies have a strong tradition at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Business School. The ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Summer School on Practice and Process Studies has been running since 2013, bringing together scholars interested in the advancement of this academic area. The Summer School is multi-disciplinary and open to a variety of approaches and sensitivities.

In 2026, our signature event — the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Summer School on Practice and Process Studies — will be delivered as an in-person event. We aim to create a lasting academic community characterised by open dialogue, discussion, and joint exploration. We trust that built on the solid foundations of the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Summer School on Practice and Process Studies, our network can be a success. Your support and participation are key!

Attendees will have the opportunity to share their work during ‘research clinics’ and receive feedback on their work from peers and seasoned faculty including:

2026 Theme: To Know is to Act: Revisiting and rethinking learning and knowing from practice & process perspectives

In this summer school, we will revisit the shift from learning and knowing as cognitive activities toward learning and knowing as inherently participative, situated, and enactive. We will explore related notions of competence and skill development. We will critically discuss the complications and affordances brought in by technological advancements to learning and knowing, and reflect on the implications for organisations and management.
