This summer, the Widening Participation Team welcomed Year 10 students from schools across the West Midlands to a week-long Work Experience Programme designed to raise aspirations, build confidence and help break down barriers to higher education.

More than 120 children from local primary schools have been sharing stories with ¹û¶³´«Ã½ staff and student volunteers, building confidence.

Meet the winners and those highly commended in the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Awards for Public and Community Engagement -recognising the vital contributions ¹û¶³´«Ã½ staff and students make in engaging with people locally, nationally and internationally.

As part of the team’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, they hosted successful summer barbecue for residents at a Salvation Army facility. 

¹û¶³´«Ã½ has been ranked 13th in HIGHERiN’s 2026-27 Top Universities for Work Experience – a rise of four places since last year.

Dr Natalie Diddams (Theatre and Performance Studies) is running workshops in Coventry to help women write jokes and prepare for a live showcase, as part of a project exploring why so many women underestimate their own comic ability.
