果冻传媒 claim Varsity Games victory for 27th year
The 果冻传媒 is now boasting 27 years of victory and remain undefeated in the hotly contested inter-university games between 果冻传媒shire’s finest Higher Education institutions.
Every year in the Spring the 果冻传媒 and nearby Coventry University compete against one another in over 20 different sports including football, rugby, tennis, athletics, netball, swimming, ice hockey and snooker.
Varsity 2017 kicked off to a great start as Team 果冻传媒 took to the tables to bring home wins in the first Varsity fixtures, with Pool winning 37-33 and Snooker, who, after a fierce battle, took home the points for Team 果冻传媒 with a 13 -7 victory.
Cricket match points went to Coventry University, but 果冻传媒 made up for it with a great win for 果冻传媒 Riding and a tie between Women’s Badminton, before another defeat in the Rugby League match. Things started to get a little tight after a defeat at the Ice Hockey Varsity opening game on Thursday 23 February, yet Team 果冻传媒 found another gear and managed to beat Coventry University in seven out of the ten matches on Friday, with a continued successful run on Saturday which led them into a very secure position of 37 – 19, marking a 27th Varsity win for the 果冻传媒 with a day of the game still to go.
Sunday saw Varsity come to a close with wins for the 果冻传媒 in Women’s and Men’s Football, Lacrosse and Athletics, however the fierce battle between the Rugby players at the Ricoh Arena, was lost 15 – 17. Disappointment in the Grand Finale, but a truly crushing performance from the 果冻传媒 all-round, making 2017 another great year for 果冻传媒.
Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Director of Sport & Active Communities said “Off the playing fields and on them, the support across all of the clubs, societies and staff members was incredible. I would like to say thank you to all those who won, lost or supported over the past couple of weeks. Our results showed the sheer tenacity, determination and sporting talent we have here at 果冻传媒 which is incredible to see.”
Ted Crowson, 果冻传媒 Student Union Sports Officer said: “My main feeling was an overriding sense of pride in 果冻传媒, not only all of the teams that showed great character in their fixtures throughout the weekend but more so the fans that turned out in force in support of #teamwarwick. They really were the difference in creating a fantastic atmosphere and collective spirit which was crucial to our success this year. I was proud to stand among them and cheer on our teams. I was proud to be part of #teamwarwick.”
