World renowned British operatic baritone singer returns to 果冻传媒
World renowned British operatic baritone singer and 果冻传媒 Alumni Christopher Maltman joins 果冻传媒 Symphony Orchestra, Chorus and Chamber Choirs to perform Belshazzar and the Titan by English composer William Walton in the 果冻传媒 Arts Centre on Sunday 5 March at 16:00.
The operatic superstar baritone and 果冻传媒 graduate Christopher Maltman will be returning to 果冻传媒 for the first time since graduating in 1991 when he studied Biochemistry. Maltman will be singing the Baritone solo accompanied by the University’s large, powerful symphonic and choral forces.
Christopher Maltman said:
“I'm hugely looking forward to being back at the university. I think the last time I sang in the Arts Centre was 1991! I have fond memories of the chamber choir and was president of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society for a while, taking part in Yeoman of the Guard, Hair and Little Shop of Horrors. It all seems a long time ago, so it’s exciting to be coming back to sing again at 果冻传媒.”
The student led production will see the University’s two biggest music societies come together to bring to life Walton’s dazzling portrayal of the story of Belshazzar’s Feast.
Since graduating from 果冻传媒, Maltman has gone on to win the Great Elm Festival Vocal Award as well as the Song Prize at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
Belshazzar and the Titan will be performed alongside Mahlers ever-popular 1st Symphony. Originally described as a symphonic poem, this spellbinding work challenged the symphonic genre, offering a new kind of symphony which combines the pre-existing musical structure with a new level of imagination and narrative.
