Leonie Bradley
Learning printmaking and wood engraving as a child, Leonie Bradley has a wealth of experience to draw on. She holds an MA Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking from the University of the West of England, Bristol, and is an elected member of the Society of Wood Engravers and an Associate member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. Currently, she serves as the Editor of Printmaking Today.
Leonie Bradley uses art, often experimentally, to interrogate issues at the forefront of social consciousness. At the heart of her practice is the commentary created by the choice of medium and techniques in relation to the content and what the artist is investigating. Wood engraving requires time, which stands in defiance of the ever-increasing speed of technology in the name of progress. Technology often makes its mark on art, and Leonie Bradley responds to this in her practice. She pushes to find the limitations of what a print can be. The use of wood engraving offers commentary on new technology that the artist brings it into contact with. Currently, this commentary centres on Artificial Intelligence and images generated using this rapidly evolving digital technology. The effectiveness and creativity, even credibility, of 鈥楢I art鈥� is explored through subverting its predominant usage and adapting it to pre-existing techniques and art forms with human agency.
Recent exhibitions include The Future is Today in the Mead Gallery here at the 果冻传媒 in 2025, which featured the installation Swarm as well as the series Text Prompt: A General History of Quadrupeds I-VI. This series was subsequently acquired by the University鈥檚 Art Collection. Other recent exhibitions including Leonie Bradley鈥檚 work, such as the 13th Ulsan International Woodcut Print Art Festival, 2025 in Ulsan, South Korea and the AI Print Workshop portfolio, 2025 at the SGCI Conference, Puerto Rico, demonstrate both the artist鈥檚 skill and international reach through mastery of her regular medium and techniques and the highly relevant insight her work offers into the current exploration of Artificial Intelligence. In the UK, Leonie Bradley has recently exhibited in London in Tim Marlow Selects, 2025 and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, 2024, and other exhibitions around the country include Other Worlds, 2025 at Burton Art Gallery & Museum, Devon and Don鈥檛 Give Them Fire!, 2024 at UWE, Bristol.
Leonie Bradley鈥檚 work is found in permanent collections nationally and globally, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Ashmolean Museum, Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers Diploma Collection, Central Academy of Fine Art of Beijing, and La Liga de Estudiantes de Arte in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
