Turing Scheme 2026-27 (Year Abroad)

Overview

We are pleased to confirm that funding applications for year abroad and semester abroad study placements 2026/27 are now open. Note that work placements are not eligible for Turing funding. This page provides further information about the Turing Scheme and how to apply

Students must have arrived in there host country and started their placement before they can apply

Eligibility

Enhanced Turing Scheme funding is available for Year Abroad or Semester Students who satisfy one or more of the following criteria:

In receipt of the The 果冻传媒 BursaryLink opens in a new window for 2026-27 (must be eligible this academic year. This is based on household income and is awarded by Student Funding at 果冻传媒 - not related to the 果冻传媒 Mobility Bursary)
On the 果冻传媒 Scholars Undergraduate programmeLink opens in a new window (this is different to the 果冻传媒 Excellence Scholarship)

Standard Turing Scheme funding is available for Year Abroad or Semester students on worldwide placements (i.e. outside of Europe) who meet the following criteria:

Deadlines for submission

For year abroad and semester 1 students:

Monday 28 September 2026 (12:00 noon, UK time)
Monday 26 October 2026 (12:00 noon, UK time)*

For semester 2 students

Monday 15 February 2027 (12:00 noon, UK time)
Monday 12 April 2027 (12:00 noon, UK time)*

For each study abroad period, if you miss the first deadline, your application will be considered after the second deadline. This means if you are a year abroad or semester 1 student and submit at 12:01 on 28 September, then your application will be considered after the next deadline. If you miss the second deadline your application will not be considered for funding

*If you are arriving later than this date and you鈥檙e unable to get the form signed in time, please let us know ASAP

Please note that if you are doing a split placement you will need to make separate applications for each

Step 1: Get your Arrival Form

This is the arrival form you have provided to Student Records Online/eVision. Check that this has been completed to include all required details (refer to list in Guide)Link opens in a new window

Note where a certificate has been received we will need it to include all required details (refer to list in GuideLink opens in a new window)

If your host institution refused to sign forms try and get a stamp as a minimum, and we will need and email from them advising of this for auditing purposes

Step 2: Sign your Grant Agreement

You must sign the Turing Scheme grant agreement.Link opens in a new window

(This must have a physical or electronic signature, typed name is not sufficient)

Step 3: Prepare your additional evidence

Within the Turing application form, you will be required to evidence that you meet the eligibility criteria, and if eligible for enhanced funding provide receipt of your travel*

*Please note any travel must follow FCDO guidelines. We cannot fund placements to or transitting through a country or region where FCDO advises against travel.

Step 4: Submit your application by the deadline

Complete the online application form and attach the documents and evidence collected in step 1-3

Application for ALL Year Abroad or Semester one:

Monday 28 September 2026 (12:00 noon)
Monday 26 October 2026 (12:00 noon)*

Application for Semester two:

Monday 15 February 2027 (12:00 noon)
Monday 12 April 2027 (12:00 noon)*

Application forms will be provided in November

Step 5: Ensure you bank details are up to date

Submit your bank details online

Further guidance on submitting your bank details:

Click on 鈥楳y Student Finance鈥� on the top bar
Click on 鈥楶roviding Your Bank Details鈥�
Click on 鈥楥ollecting Bank Details for Payments to Students鈥�
Select 鈥楿G payments (departmental awards for undergraduate students only, including URSS)鈥� from the drop down list then click 'Continue'
Enter your bank account details then click 鈥榁alidate鈥�
Check the details are correct hen click 'Create'
The 'Fund Set Up Details page loads - click 'Confirm'
Click 'Finish'

Please note you can only submit bank details for UK bank accounts via our online system. We are unable to make payments into overseas bank accounts.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you enter your bank details correctly, please double check they are accurate before clicking submit

What happens next?

After each deadline, we will review all applications:

If your application is incomplete we will contact you at your 果冻传媒 email address outlining what is missing for us process your application. Please ensure to check you email account regularly so that you can action, as we may have tight deadlines for this to be provided by
If you have provided all the correct evidence and have up to date bank details by the deadline, it is anticipated we will process payments to be received within 6 weeks of the deadline. You will receive an email notifying you when payment has been sent for processing

All payments shall be made in GBP Sterling

We request that you do not contact us before this time has elapsed to enquire about submission of your form as this will slow down processing times
