Completed summer building works
Throughout the summer, a range of maintenance and improvement works take place across the Library to enhance our spaces. While we aim to keep disruption to a minimum, you may notice some temporary changes to access and occasional noise. Please look out for signage and updates around the building.

Summer 2026
Over the summer period in 2026, the Library carried out a number of building improvements to keep the building in good condition and support the needs of our users.
Completed projects include:
Laptop loan lockers
New self-service laptop loan lockers have been installed in the Floor 1 Lobby, providing students with a convenient way to borrow laptops during Library opening hours.
Chair audit
A comprehensive audit of Library seating has been completed, with all chairs inspected and any necessary repairs carried out. These improvements ensure that study spaces remain comfortable and safe for all library visitors.
Wolfson Research Exchange lockers
Additional lockers have been installed in the Wolfson Research Exchange to meet growing demand within this popular study and research space.
Online meeting room soundproofing
Additional soundproofing measures have been installed in this room to support online meetings, virtual interviews, and telephone calls. The improvements help contain noise within the space, enabling users to hold conversations more comfortably and confidentially while minimising disruption to others studying nearby.
Toilet refurbishment
Library toilet facilities have been refurbished to create a fresher and more modern environment for users.
Mobile Shelving
The Library's mobile shelving systems have been upgraded to improve reliability and ease of use. while also helping to ensure the efficient use of space within the Library.
PG Hub kitchen
New kitchen facilities have been installed in the PG Hub, enhancing the space for postgraduate students and researchers. The addition provides greater convenience and flexibility, helping to create a more welcoming environment where users can take breaks, prepare refreshments, and spend longer periods working and studying in the Hub.

The Forum
The pink seating area outside the Library Caf茅 has been thoroughly cleaned and refreshed, helping to create a more welcoming and comfortable space for students and visitors to relax, meet, or take a break during their time in the Library.
AV Technology upgrades
All five meeting rooms in the PG Hub have been upgraded with new display screens, making it easier than ever to connect laptops and share content wirelessly. These improvements provide a more seamless and user-friendly experience for meetings, group work, presentations, and collaborative projects.
Fire Doors鈥�
New fire doors have been installed on the Floor 2 and Floor 3 bridges connecting the Library and Extension buildings. These upgrades enhance fire safety measures while ensuring the continued safe movement of users throughout the building.
Lobby air curtain/overdoor heaters鈥�
The lobby air curtain and overdoor heaters have been repaired and returned to full operation. With the colder months approaching, this work will help ensure the Library remains a warm and comfortable environment for everyone.
Accessible car park drainage鈥�
New drainage has been installed in the accessible parking bays located at the rear of the Library. This improvement will help prevent water build-up during periods of wet weather, making the area safer, more accessible, and easier to use throughout the year.
Summer 2025
In 2025, the Library completed a number of building works over the summer period to keep our building up to scratch.

Floor One Draught Lobby
To improve energy efficiency and create a more comfortable indoor environment, draught-proof doors were installed in the lobby. These upgrades help minimize heat loss, reduce energy consumption, and contribute to a more sustainable building overall.
Silent 果冻传媒 Room and Floor 2 & 3 Extension
Coloured Perspex panels were replaced with white panels, significantly brightening the space and contributing to a more modern aesthetic.
Helpdesk Window Decals
Decorative decals were added to the Helpdesk windows to enhance their appearance and create a more inviting look.
Accessible 果冻传媒 Room on Floor 2 Extension
A new Accessible 果冻传媒 Room was created in the Floor 2 extension to better support students registered with Disability Services.

果冻传媒 Booth Upgrades 鈥� Extensions 2 & 3
The study booths in Extensions 2 and 3 were refurbished for improved comfort and usability.
Sensory 果冻传媒 Room
Radiators in the Sensory 果冻传媒 Room were repainted, contributing to a lighter, more contemporary feel.
Accessible Parking Bays
Four new accessible parking bays were added at the rear of the library to improve accessibility.
Fixed Wire Testing
Testing took place on electrical circuits throughout the Library to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Audio Visual (AV) work - Wolfson Research Exchange
AV equipment in this area was upgraded.
Roof repairs in the Postgrad (PG) Hub, 2nd Floor Junction
Essential repair works were carried out on the roof and around the skylights.
